Spam is a way of utilizing electronic equipment used to send information or messages in the form of writing, images, videos, or other forms to other people continuously without being asked, known, or without permission by the recipient of the message.

Receiving a large number of messages continuously can cause anxiety for the recipient of the message, moreover, the information or messages received are deemed unimportant and useful for the recipient. Early uses of spam were related to religion and politics.

As the name implies, this type of spam targets Usenet newsgroups. In addition, forum spam is the act of creating messages in the form of advertisements or unwanted messages on internet forums. Most spam on forums consists of links that will direct us to external sites for a specific purpose.

Mobile phone

This type of spam is sent through the sender of the message to the recipient in the form of a short message or SMS. In addition to disturbing the recipient of the message, this type of spam also allows us to be charged for every text message we receive.

Online game

Online gaming spam applies to all forms of mass messaging and that violates the terms of the service contract for the website. The way this type of spam works is through the in-game message system or it can also turn off the game and then redirect players to a sales website.

This type of spam is also known as spamdexing. Spamdexing itself is an abbreviation of two words, namely spamming and indexing. Spam refers to the practice on the WWW of modifying HTML pages to increase their chances of placing spam in the most highly relevant search engines.

How to Overcome Spam in Gmail

As previously mentioned, email or electronic mail is one of the most frequently spammed platforms. If you get an unwanted email in your Gmail inbox, you can block or unsubscribe from the sender, or report the message to Gmail. Here are the ways you can do it:

Block email addresses on Android

  • Open the Gmail app on your smartphone
  • Open message
  • Click the “More” button
  • Tap Block “sender name”

When you have blocked a sender, the messages they sent will automatically go to the Spam folder

Unsubscribe from bulk email

Keep in mind, after unsubscribing, the mailing list may take a few days before it finally stops sending you messages.

Usually, if you’ve ever registered on a site that sends out emails frequently, such as promotions or newsletters, that’s the cause of a lot of spam that enters your email.

Therefore, you can do this method to prevent spam from continuing to enter your email, namely:

  • Open the Gmail app on your smartphone
  • Open the email from the sender you want to unsubscribe from.

At the bottom of the message, tap Unsubscribe or Change preferences. If you do not see this option, the sender of the message did not provide the information necessary to unsubscribe. If so, you can follow the steps above to block the sender or mark the message as spam.

Delete spam or suspicious messages

The last way you can try to deal with spam in your email is to delete it, here are the steps:

  • Open the Gmail app on your smartphone
  • Tap the letter or photo to the left of the message, or open the message.
  • Click the “More” button located in the upper right corner
