Apple has long relied on a camera with a 12MP sensor in their iPhone lineup. In fact, the iPhone 13 Pro also carries a 12MP camera. But this “tradition” was soon broken because Apple planned to embed a 48MP camera on the iPhone 14 Pro series and a periscope camera for the iPhone 15.
For more than a decade, Apple has continuously relied on the main camera with a 12MP sensor in the latest iPhone line that was introduced. Although it doesn’t look as good as the 108MP Android cellphone camera, the camera can still compete on the DxOMark version of the best camera HP standings.
Even though it’s still 12MP, Apple is always improving the quality of hardware and camera features to the best level on their latest iPhone. Well, next year, the iPhone 14 Series will be “crazier” for its camera capabilities.
According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino tech giant will place a 48MP sensor as the main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro which is scheduled to be released next year.
Coupled with the new Apple Bionic processor, this 48MP camera has the ability to shoot 8K video. This high-resolution video will be suitable for viewing on Apple’s AR/VR devices which will also be released next year.
Furthermore, Kuo explained that the 48MP camera of the iPhone 14 Pro will produce images at a resolution of 48MP and 12MP, which is known as the pixel-binning process.
But interestingly, the 48MP high-resolution mode will be taken automatically when the user is shooting in sunny conditions. While photos with 12MP resolution will be selected automatically when users take pictures in low light conditions to maintain quality.
iPhone 15 the Year 2023 Has a Periscope Camera
Not only predicting the camera from the iPhone 14 Pro, but Kuo also gives an idea of what the iPhone 15 Series will look like in 2023. He explained, that at least one iPhone 15 model will carry a sophisticated periscope camera.
This feature is a significant improvement on the latest iPhone, although it is quite late compared to Android phones. Just so you know, currently the ranks of Android phones with periscope camera capabilities are not only available on expensive smartphones.
An easy Android phone like the Infinix Zero X Neo is also equipped with a camera that has a super far zoom. Periscope cameras themselves have folded optics, in which light absorbed by the sensor is bent to increase optical magnification while maintaining a compact design.

Unfortunately, Kuo did not go into detail about the presence of this periscope camera. Currently, Apple is still relying on a telephoto camera with 3x optical-zoom capabilities on the latest iPhone lineup.
